2014-10-13 08.54.08It was almost a very anti-climatic day. We had the contest going on that could have provided some motivation. And we went to the library. We usually spend hours reading after a library trip, but they were not really into it. Not until bedtime, of course. Then, we read!

At Dawn, We Read!

Here we go! Tomorrow is our first day of reading.

To get off to a good start, we’re going to have a contest. Lunchbucket is an amazing reader, but can you read more than her?

Let’s count pages for this contest. For all 24 hours of October 15th, count all the pages you read and Lunchbucket will count hers. If anyone reads more pages than Lunchbucket, our family will donate $5. Leave a comment on this post to let me know how many pages you read. On the morning of Oct. 16th, we’ll announce the winner!
at dawn we read

Zoom!

. Comments Off on Zoom!

We read this book called Zoom by Robert Munsch. It’s awesome! zoom

It’s about a girl named Lauretta who got a new wheelchair, a FAST wheelchair! He wrote it because a real little girl named Lauretta wrote him asking if he would write a story about a girl who uses a wheelchair. The real Lauretta was born with Spina Bifida, Hydrocephalus and Scoliosis and needed to use a wheelchair.

It’s such a fun book! It’s even more fun when you hear Robert Munsch read it to you. You absolutely HAVE to go to his website (click here) and click that listen button to hear the author read the book, just do it!

We know there are lots of little girls (and older girls and boys!) who need a new wheelchair but can’t just go to the wheelchair store and pick out the fastest one they can find. We want to help them. We want one of them to have an awesome new wheelchair that makes them feel like zooming around! That’s why we’re doing our read-a-thon. We have two pledges so far! YAY! Thank you! We are excited to begin reading (well… to begin tracking our reading) in TWO DAYS!!

There’s still plenty of time to pledge, here’s how:

1. Fill out the form below (if the embedded form isn’t working, here’s a link –> http://goo.gl/forms/r3bNhvazCF)

2. Watch this blog for our daily updates, book counts, and maybe some fun contests ;)

3. Watch for the Grand Total announcement on October 31st (Halloween! YAY!) On that day, you can find your reader’s Grand Total and multiply it by your pledge amount.

4. Send us your donation by Nov. 4th. We can accept your donation in any way you can get it to us.

A Read-a-thon!

We have an awesome homeschool group at our library! A few weeks ago our lesson was about disabilities. We learned about a few of the different kinds of disabilities people have. We tried tying shoes with a blindfold on. We read a book called, Zoom. It’s about a girl who got a new wheelchair that was so fast that she got a speeding ticket! And we got to try a wheelchair! It was hard!

As a group, we decided that we want to help someone get a wheelchair. We know that we are all really good at reading, so we’re doing a read-a-thon. Our family’s idea is to ask you choose one of our 4 readers and pledge to donate any amount of money you want for every book they read. Starting on October 15th, we will read like maniacs!
